I hate signature-required mail. I hate the experience of finding a card in my mailbox that says my mail was not delivered because a signature is required, and which asks me to either drive to east bumfuck to an obscure post office branch, or to sign up for another day when it will be redelivered. I chose Saturday, of course, because really what other day would anyone be home to receive mail that has to be signed for? (Sometimes you can sign the back of the card and that serves, but not this time.) I hate the mystery that the card does not say who the letter is from, so there is no way to know if this is junk mail or something important, or something serious like I’m being sued or something else that would require a signature. So there’s fear about what the letter is. There frustration of not having it. And there’s annoyance of paperwork (filling out the card). Later on, come Saturday, if by chance I am home, there will be the eventual revelation of what piece of mail considered itself so damn important that it couldn’t just be left in the mailbox like every other piece of mail is. Probably jury duty. Could be the soundcard I ordered, which I did ask for insurance for, but did NOT ask for the damn signature requirement. Give me a fucking break. The post office needs to go out of business. At least UPS knows when to just leave something, signature be damned.
