Honestly I am surprised; my new Audigy 2 ZS Notebook sound card is working, and I am running a purely optical digital signal to listen to music from my laptop now.
The item arrived from ebay this evening (it was delayed by a signature requirement), and the only real snag in installing it was that it was not obvious how far I had to push it in. (The answer was further than I expected to.)
There’s no static on my audio anymore. The card takes over for the built-in sound card that was malfunctioning. The new card slid into the PCMCIA card slot, I installed some drivers, I installed some application, and, I am listening to music now. (I’d picked up a 12′ optical audio cable online earlier.)
I feel like I’m listening to an lp, the sound is so smooth. (Actually it’s simply that there was some ambient hiss and static present before, which is gone now, and its absence makes for a more relaxing experience.)
The laptop is warmer than it was before, so I guess my only remaining concern is whether the laptop will accept the new heat level as alright.
The only thing I don’t know yet is whether I should have the sound card set to output the audio at 44.1 or 48. It works either way. I’ll google it.
