I don’t know what it is with me and sound cards dying, but my “new” (exceptionally cheap, extremely used) office laptop sound crapped out, so again I am buying a used Audigy 2 ZS Notebook sound card to insert into the PCMCIA slot, to take over the sound duties. At least I know what I am doing this time so it was easy. And I found one for much less than the one I’d got for myself. Plus I have a company credit card now.
I didn’t assume I’d get the exact same one, but, that’s the one that is on the used market now (on ebay).
The sound on the office laptop had been extremely faint from the start, even when I’d done a fresh install on the system. Even with the speakers turned up full, it was so quiet I had to hold a speaker up to my ear to hear it. So I’m not surprised that it finally ceased to make sound altogether. I figure that’s why the laptop was sold to me so cheaply to begin with. As such, it was fair.
