Jamba Juice Chain Pulls Strawberries, Citing Bacteria (Update3)
By Steven Bodzin
Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) — Jamba Inc.’s Jamba Juice chain of smoothie shops said strawberries sold in Arizona, southern Nevada and Southern California late last month may have been contaminated with listeria, a potentially deadly bacterium. Between 1,200 and 1,800 pounds of the frozen strawberries were served between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1, Chief Executive Officer Paul Clayton said.
Elsewhere on the web it notes that “If one is aware that he or she has been exposed to listeria, they should keep in mind that symptoms can occur anytime within two months of exposure.” Symptoms include death, preceded by gastrointestinal illness accompanied by headaches or a sore neck and fever, and complications of meningitis or encephalitis. So it’s like the risk of being at college, but in a smooth fruity beverage format.
