I don't blog much

Yay, I’d been told to expect this but it was still a boon to hear. I’ve been asked to join of the Board of Directors of the non-profit organization at which I used to work. The John E Mack Institute, named for its late founder Dr John Mack of Harvard, hasn’t been doing much since he passed away, but it is still an honor because it means they believe that I will respect his vision. That honor is slightly diminished by their also wanting me to be Secretary, i.e. the person who records and takes notes during the annual board meetings. When I worked there as a staff member I sometimes did that note taking, and I found it difficult to participate and take notes at the same time. Actually, pretty much anything said after the second hour wouldn’t get recorded because by then boredom had numbed my brain and made my hands immobile. So this is both an honor and a pain in the ass at the same time.

I’ll accept. It doesn’t pay anything but it looks good on a resume. I look forward most to making decisions, casting my vote and such, as opposed to that note-taking part. I wonder if they’ll let me buy a second external hard drive to store this stuff…

An idea to move the board to Boulder did not get approved, so people like me and Danny Mack will attend board meetings remotely, via teleconferencing.
