As a resolution snob, I am having a hard time explaining to a client why a 320×240 video clip simply won’t fly on a DVD (since DVDs, and all older television sets, are 640×480). I tried to get him to export his movie at 640×480 so at least all the titles (which are generated by his editing program) would be generated legibly, but he upsampled the 320×240 movie instead… I just can’t get the concept across.
And if I can’t get the “size” concept across, you can forget about getting the “compressed vs uncompressed” file-type concept across. At least he was willing to go along with making an avi, on my word. If only he hadn’t made the avi out of a wmv, it would have actually achieved something…

Your title for this blog totally made me think of Weird Al’s song for UHF. Now I have it stuck in my head. Doh.

I was thinking of The Outer Limits, I think.
