Cafe M Leaves Good Memories

Posted in Personal by Will on Thursday, August 30th, 2007 ~ 4pm

Cafe M closes today, and I am sorry to not be there for a final peanut butter chocolate smoothie, but I did have one yesterday and I waved to the owner from the sidewalk as I walked past Cafe M on my way home after work — so that counts as my farewell. It used to be called Travelers, but a year ago a new guy bought it and turned it into Cafe M, with better furniture and the same nice service. I had many smoothies there, and some of my best escapes from work involved meeting my friend there for a bite. The owner sold it to a woman who will be turning it into a bakery or pastry shop.

Also on 14th street, and also closing, is that General Store next to the theatre, which was the only place I know of on Pearl Street that had Odwalla. I need another source now.

I’m taking today and Friday off because I have been so frazzled that work was becoming problematic. I woke up today at around 2pm, ate some cereal, and then went to bed again. Getting up now. It will be a few days before I am rested again. I dreamed last night that a young girl-child prophet in black told me I was going to break my neck. Not nice. Probably just based on my neck being sore for the past couple days. But yikes, that’s not a nice dream. I’m going to a birthday party tonight.

Goldfrapp sale, maybe

Posted in Personal by Will on Thursday, August 30th, 2007 ~ 12am

This is almost certainly a mislisting, and they are not in stock so chances are these orders will never be honored, but, if you like Goldfrapp, two of their live concert CDs are for sale at deepdiscount.com for under $14 each, free shipping. I’ve seen them sold elsewhere for between $20 to $30 each. Goldfrapp: Live: Brighton Dome 10-03-2005, Goldfrapp: Live: Manchester Academy 10-08-2005

I placed an order for the one I don’t have, but, as I say. FYI – the Brighton Dome 10-03-2005 is excellent, and includes one song not played for the rest of the tour (Lovely 2 CU).

This message is unlikely to reach any fans here but I don’t feel like looking for a Goldfrapp blog to mention this on.

Update: It shipped!

Asus

Note to myself: If I needed a replacement laptop computer, I’d take a serious look at the Asus G1S-A1. But, I don’t.

Lovely elf*

Posted in Personal by Will on Saturday, August 25th, 2007 ~ 5pm

A lovely elf at Bart’s record shop came to the back of the store and asked another employee, who was grappling an upper wall trying to trace the wires of a malfunctioning system (perhaps an air conditioner), “Are you going to break it more?” Her voice was so lovely, and the contrast between her elfin beauty and her effort to frustrate her colleague was so keen. As she went up my aisle to return to the front of the store, we stepped around each other so she could pass the narrow space. We looked at each other’s faces briefly and then she said in a hushed tone into the air between us — partly to me and partly, perhaps, for him to overhear — “he’s going to break it more”. So lovely.

It wasn’t a “moment” between her and I. I only wish it was.

*small female with high voice, elfin in the sense of being small and lovely. In this case small female with a burst of bleached blond hair. Just adding that definition in case it may mean something else entirely in the male gay community.

.

HERE’S AN INTERESTING ODDITY! I HAD THOUGHT I’D LOST what I’d just written, and so I’d rewritten it. The above is the best edit of the two. But below is the original draft, which was succinct but a bit inaccurate, followed by the version rewritten from memory as I panicked that I’d lost it. The panicked version suffers mostly from improperly remembering where each sentence went (though I like the first and last sentence more, which is why I used them in the finished edit above):

A lovely elf at Bart’s record store came to the back of the store to ask a fellow employee if he had plans to break the air conditioner more than it was already, as he clanged away at some part of the upper wall in the back of the store. Her voice was so lovely, and the contrast between her elfin beauty and her effort to frustrate her colleague was so keen. As she went up my aisle to return to the front of the store, we stepped around each other so she could pass the narrow space. We looked at each other’s faces briefly and then she said in a hushed tone into the air between us — partly to me and partly, perhaps, for him to overhear — “he’s going to break it more”. So lovely.

It wasn’t a “moment”, I only wish it had been.

A lovely elf at Bart’s record store came to the back of the store and asked another employee, who was grappling an upper wall trying to trace the wires of a malfunctioning system (perhaps an air conditioner), “Are you going to break it more?” He protested that he could not. She began her return to the front of the store through my aisle, and she and I stepped around each other so she could pass the narrow space. We looked to each other’s faces briefly, and as she passed she said in a hushed tone into the air between us — partly to me, and partly, I assume, for him to overhear — “he’s going to break it more”. The contrast between her beautiful voice and her sinister effort to frustrate her fellow employee was ever so keen.

It wasn’t a “moment” between her and I. I only wished it was.
