Art for Future Walls

Posted in Personal by Will on Friday, December 28th, 2012 ~ 12am

Walls: 4
Pictures to hang up: 9? 10?
In my mind, these pictures are for future walls. Their placement is taking shape.
I don’t want to put up too many now, because wall-clutter is bad. You need some empty space on walls or else art becomes oppressive instead of inspirational.

BoingBoing – Protecting the Vision

Posted in Personal by Will on Thursday, December 6th, 2012 ~ 6pm

BoingBoing’s writers and mods have a very freshman perspective when it comes to matters of race and culture. The perspective could be summarized as the belief that everything is racist. They may privately be able to discern the difference between something intended to offend (like, a Klan rally) and something that is not (like, a Clint Eastwood spaghetti-Western). But publicly, they don’t really want people to recognize and discuss this distinction, since it could lead to people not treating people in the idealized fashion which many of the BoingBoing mods and writers aspire to. They’ve got a vision of what the future could be like, and they don’t want any dissent along the way. If you disagree with BoingBoing, be prepared to be disemvoweled – or, since the upgrade, just deleted. I like their vision of the future. I don’t like how they plan to get there.

iTunes 11 music videos oddity

Posted in Music by Will on Friday, November 30th, 2012 ~ 5pm

In the Music section, if you go to Videos, your collection of music videos are displayed with only the title of the music video and a still frame from the music video.

The Artist is not written!

Kind of a major goof – it is what it would be like if MTV played music videos but only displayed the title of the song, and left the viewer to guess who it was by.

Come on Apple, please fix this. Make it more like the Audiobooks section, where both the title and the author are displayed. The same logic applies to Music Videos – title and artist is needed.

iTunes 11 – a good step forward, but one with much that needs to be changed

Posted in Personal by Will on Thursday, November 29th, 2012 ~ 9pm

iTunes 11, a radical departure from all prior versions of iTunes, is a good step forward, but one with much that will need to be changed.

iTunes 11 minimizes the existence of album cover art to such an extent that many who love cover art will cry foul. Where cover art is present, it is very small, and the only size options are to make it even smaller. A medium-sized image of the cover is displayed when one is playing an album, but it is corrupted with a blurred-edges effect which ruins the art director’s intent – this is in fact what I expect will be changed first, after record companies complain to Apple. No large images of the album covers exist anywhere.

UPDATE: Wait! If you click on the centimeter-sized icon of the album cover in the bar at the top of the iTunes interface, a big picture of the album appears!

So there IS one way to see the cover large and unadulterated!
